The Office of the Vice President for Research and International Relations (OVPRIR), in collaboration with the ICTDU, organized a comprehensive training session on digital filing systems on November 2, 2024,  at the undergraduate campus. The session was specifically designed for staff members involved in data management, including secretaries and assistants. The training was expertly led by Misganaw Solomon (PhD) and Ato Solomon Hunegnaw.

During the session, the participants were being trained on various aspects of digital filing, including archiving, documenting, retrieving, and sharing secure access from any location using Microsoft 365 Outlook and OneDrive. They also gained essential documentative skills. The training highlighted several key benefits of digital filing systems:

  • Easy access to and retrieval of documents,
  • Unrestricted geographical locations
  • Ability to continue to work without personal gadgets
  • Effortless file sharing and collaborative works

This initiative is part of SMU’s broader strategy to ensure easy and unrestricted accesses, retrieval, and sharing of documents so that relevant technologies can be boosted to streamline work processes.

SMU has been proactive in leveraging available technologies to improve its services, such as the Student Record Management System, HR Database, LMS, and various Microsoft Office Apps like Outlook. This training session is a significant step that gears towards the university’s goal of becoming a paperless and fully digitized institution.
